vroomheid: Issey Miyake, 1977 I became the first clothing designer to receive a mainichi design award. This is my first collection called east meets west, directed in the following year by Ikko Tanaka, who was on the panel of judges for this prestigious prize.  Upon assuming this directorial position, he rented a small apartment and set up his design studio.  issey miyake & kazuko koike: east meets west
